Boxing promoter in jail for shooting husband while he was showering

A boxing promoter with a checkered history is behind bars for allegedly shooting her husband.

After spending nearly 24-hours on the run, Union County sheriff's investigators arrested 50-year-old Lavonda Earley, Vegas Grand Boxing Promotions, LLC.

Authorities say the husband, 56-year-old Johnny Stacey, was shot "numerous times" while in the shower, although Earley claimed she shot him out of self-defense. Investigators obtained warrants charging Earley with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury.

Police say Stacey was shot "in various parts of his body" around 6 p.m. Tuesday in a home in the 2000 block of Chandler Forest Court.

Investigators responded after a neighbor phoned 911 to report that the victim ram to his residence and told him his wife had shot him. Earley was arrested just before 6 p.m. Wednesday without incident, but it was not disclosed where she was found.

A social media count linked to Stacey also claimed Earley had stolen approximately $50,000 from the victim prior to the alleged incident to fund her boxing promotion.

Earley has had a highly-controversial history in promoting pro boxing, with a plethora of fighters, managers, and other personnel claiming Earley stiffed them.

One source told FightNights.com that Earley consistently staged fights between untrained fighters who looked like they were pulled from the streets to fight. Furthermore, another source claimed fighters would arrive at the venue with no equipment and were forced to borrow from other competitors.

Earley is currently out of jail pending a May 3 court date. As for the husband, he is understandably divorcing her.
