Shinard Bunch gets off the deck to outpoint Hank Lundy, hands veteran fourth straight loss

Shinard Bunch overcame a knockdown to defeat former world title challenger Henry 'Hank' Lundy Friday evening at the Newtown Athletic Club in Newtown Township, Pennsylvania.

The judges scored the contest 95-93, 97-91, and 98-90, all for Bunch, who has not lost in 19 consecutive bouts dating back to a six-round unanimous decision loss to Paul Kroll in August 2019, his third professional fight.

The 23-year-old Bunch, of Trenton, New Jersey, floored Lundy in the opening frame and dominated the first half of the fight. During the seventh round, however, Lundy (31-12-1, 14 KOs) had begun to land consistently with his jab. In the final moments of the eighth round, the crafty veteran dropped Bunch with a counter left hook. Bunch beat the count but was saved by the bell.

An exciting ninth round was briefly stalled after a fight broke out in the crowd. Both fighters had their moments in the final frame, but it appeared that the 38-year-old Lundy had landed the more meaningful punches.

Lundy, of Philadelphia, who unsuccessfully challenged then-WBO junior welterweight titleholder Terence Crawford for his belt in February 2016, has lost six of his last eight contests.
