Former British and Commonwealth champion Willie Limond (42-6, 13 KOs) has been hospitalized after a suspected seizure, reportedly in a critical condition. The 45-year-old was scheduled to participate in a public workout in Glasgow, Scotland, last weekend to promote his upcoming fight against Joe Laws (14-2, 5 KOs) on May 3 at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow, headlining the event promoted by St. Andrews Sporting Club.
Limond was found unresponsive in a residential street in Coatbridge, east of Glasgow, and was admitted to Monklands Hospital, where he remains currently.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland stated, "Around 8.05 am on Saturday, April 6, 2024, police were called to a report of a 45-year-old man found unresponsive within a car in Heatherbell Road, Coatbridge. The man was taken to Monklands Hospital, where medical staff described his condition as critical. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
Limond had chosen to come out of retirement and face Laws following his defeat to former three-weight world champion Ricky Burns in September of the previous year.
In an interview before his fight against Laws in February, Limond expressed, "I believe you’re going to see the best of me in this fight. I know I’m old now, but I believe you are going to see the best I am on this night. I’m not joking."
