Rafael Espinoza is set to defend his WBO featherweight title for the first time on Friday, June 21, leading the charge in a Top Rank on ESPN+ event from Las Vegas.
At 30 years old, Espinoza (24-0, 20 KO) clinched a remarkable upset to claim the championship from Robeisy Ramirez last December, marking a significant breakthrough for the Mexican boxer. Now, he faces fellow countryman Chirino (22-1, 13 KO), who, at 29, aims to replicate Espinoza's feat from six months ago.
Chirino's lone defeat occurred against Mauricio Lara in 2018, a setback that predates Lara's rise to prominence, making it a respectable loss considering Lara's subsequent achievements.
The event will also showcase a compelling super featherweight clash between Andres Cortes (21-0, 12 KO) and Abraham Nova (23-2, 16 KO), along with a closely matched middleweight bout featuring Troy Isley (12-0, 5 KO) and Javier Martinez (10-0-1, 3 KO), which serves as a potential prospect eliminator.
Additionally, Floyd Diaz, Steven Navarro, and DJ Zamora are slated for action on the card.
