Kayla Harrison spent the last five years of her mixed martial arts career competing in the Professional Fighters League. During this time, Harrison went 16-1 and emerged victorious in the 2021- and 2019-Women lightweight competitions. However, she lost the 2022 lightweight tournament to Larissa Pacheco.
After that loss, Harrison only fought once in the PFL, beating former UFC fighter Aspen Ladd in 2023 through decision. Kayla joined the UTC early this year as a free agent, making her debut at UFC 300 in April. However, she submitted to the former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm during the second round in her first fight at 135 pounds. Currently, Harrison is No. 12 in the UFC women's bantamweight ranking.
Meanwhile, Viera joined the UFC with a 6-0 record in 2016 and went 4-0 to start her run, recording a submission and three decision wins. Two of these victories were against UFC title challengers like Sara McMann and Cat Zingano. However, her winning streak ended in 2019 when she lost to Irene Aldana through a first-round knockout.
Since 2019, Viera has recorded a mixed bag of performances in the UFC, going 4-2. Viera has gone 1-1 in her last two fights, losing through a split decision to the reigning bantamweight champion Raquel Pennington in 2023. As such, the opening betting line for the fight has Harrison as the bookies' favorite at -810 odds, while Viera is the underdog at +560.
