Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) has revealed two additional undercard matchups for their October 19 event on Prime Video, which is headlined by the 154 lb title fight between Bakhram Murtazaliev and Tim Tszyu.
One of the spotlight fighters is Cuban super welterweight Yoenis Tellez (8-0, 6 KOs), who is making a return to PBC after a stint with Jake Paul’s MVP promotions. Tellez will square off against Johan Gonzalez (35-3, 34 KOs), a hard-hitting Venezuelan with a formidable record. The 24-year-old Tellez impressed in his last PBC appearance, securing a third-round TKO against Sergio Garcia in July 2023, and has since continued his winning ways with two consecutive victories under MVP. Gonzalez, 33, is coming off losses to Magomed Kurbanov and Jesus Ramos but did score a notable win against Guido Schramm in a ProBox TV fight nearly a year ago.
Fighting in familiar territory, Tellez has competed at the Caribe Royale in Orlando in four of his last five bouts, which will again be the venue for this showdown.
Also featured on the card is undefeated middleweight Mateo Tapia (17-0, 10 KOs), a 26-year-old Australian fighter born in Mexico. He’ll be going up against another Venezuelan, Endry Saavedra (16-1, 13 KOs). Although Saavedra gained attention in Australia by defeating Isaac Hardman earlier this year, the fight will take place in Orlando rather than Tapia’s home country, where it might have drawn more local interest. Tapia, seven years younger than his opponent, is coming off a win against Keiber Gonzalez in April.
Tellez is a rising prospect with a promising future, while Tapia competes in a division where rapid advancements are possible. While the undercard may not be overflowing with big-budget fights, it does offer intrigue, with both fighters having a chance to make a statement. Ultimately, the main event is what will draw most viewers, and it looks strong on paper.
