Flowers Shines as Team USA Kicks Off World Boxing Cup in Brazil

Team USA launched its campaign at the World Boxing Cup: Brazil 2025 in Foz do Iguaçu, with three fighters stepping into the ring on the opening day. Leading the charge was Carlos Flowers of Dover, Del., who delivered the team's lone victory in dominant fashion.

Competing in the 70kg division, Flowers stunned Paris 2024 Olympian Shannan Davey of Australia, securing a flawless unanimous decision victory. With this impressive win, Flowers advances to the quarterfinals, where he will face Panama’s Eduardo Beckford on Wednesday, April 2, in bout No. 46.

Orlando Zamora made his international debut in the 55kg division, battling another Paris 2024 Olympian, Yusuf Chothia of Australia. Despite a slow start that saw him down 5-0 after the first round, Zamora fought back fiercely, ultimately falling in a razor-thin 3-2 decision.

Malachi Georges (90kg) rounded out the action for Team USA, taking on Brazil’s Isaias Filho. Despite a valiant effort, Georges dropped a 5-0 decision, ending his tournament run.

Looking ahead, Team USA returns to action on Tuesday with four fighters stepping into the ring. Yoseline Perez (54kg) faces Australia’s Monique Suraci, a Paris 2024 Olympian, in bout 15. Ramon Ordonez (60kg) and Kelvin Watts (90+kg) will make their international debuts in bouts 18 and 23, respectively. Lisa Greer (60kg) will close out the day for Team USA, taking on Australia’s Tina Rahimi in bout 26.

Tuesday’s action resumes with bout 14, as the tournament continues through the week. Team USA looks to build momentum and add more victories to its tally in Brazil.
