WISLA CLUB, GARFIELD, NJ - Heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek, 48-2, 29 KOs, held court with the press today at the Wisla Club in Garfield, NJ to announce his upcoming fight with Tony Grano, 20-3-1, 16 KOs, scheduled for August 3rd. The pair of heavyweights will collide in a 10-round opening bout that will be nationally televised by NBC Sports Network, as part of the popular Fight Night boxing series, beginning at 10:30PM EDT.
The fight card, nicknamed "Three To See" will be held at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT, and will deliver three televised 10-round feature bouts, as well as a full slate of undercard attractions. In addition to Adamek-Grano, the other TV fights are middleweight Curtis Stevens, 24-3, 17 KOs, against Saul Roman, 37-9, 31 KOs in the main event, plus Eddie Chambers, 36-3, 18 KOs, versus Thabiso Mchunu, 13-1, 10 KOs, in a cruiserweight fight.
Grano was not present at the press conference because he is away at training camp in Florida. However, Adamek, his trainer Roger Bloodworth, and co-promoters Kathy Duva, of Main Events and Ziggy Rozalski, of Ziggy Promotions, all addressed the media.
"We are going to see Tomasz Adamek perform again, and we all know what that means," Kathy Duva said. "Excitement, action, fun, thrills. He's going to fighting a hometown fighter. Tony Grano comes from Connecticut. So for a change, there's going to be people on both sides cheering."
"Main Events is a very good company to work with," Ziggy Rozalski said. "Kathy, thank you very much for putting us on NBC Sports Network because that's a big thing for us. Thank you very much."
"I'm glad to be back, especially on NBC," trainer Roger Bloodworth said. "It's a good showcase; a lot of people get to see the fight. Tomasz has been off for a while, but he has not been idle. We've been working on a lot of things. It's been a good camp so far. I anticipate a good fight. This Tony Grano comes to fight, and Tomasz comes to fight. So I'm expecting a great fight."
"After a busy last year, there was time for a rest," Adamek said. "I was resting for a couple of months, but I came back to the gym with Roger and we've spent over 10 weeks in the gym (already). I'm fresh and ready for a comeback. I'm sure Tony Grano is a good fighter. He is a puncher, but I'm not afraid. I'm not a chicken. I want to beat him. He brings everything into the ring, but I'm ready for everything. I respect every opponent, but I want to win this fight and I'm looking for title fights again. That is my goal."
"Tomasz is a guy who finds a way to win, and that is an enormous asset," Duva added. "He is a tremendous performer. He has held two world titles - at light heavyweight and at cruiserweight. He has fought so many heavyweights that we're literally running out of people for him to fight in that division. We're waiting for some of the young guys to start coming up, and that's what Tony Grano is. He is someone who is younger and looking to make his mark. It's going to be the biggest fight of his life, and that presents challenges."
