Manny Pacquiao becomes number one contender for Mayweather

The WBC's rankings yesterday showed that after his victory over Brandon Rios a few weekends ago, Manny Pacquiao has been placed as the number one contender, and mandatory, to face belt holder and pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather. Is this one step closer to the mega-fight taking place? Not exactly. Floyd Mayweather still has the option to take a voluntary before facing Pacquiao which he will likely do in May. After that, Floyd has the option to fight Pacquiao or lose the WBC belt. Considering Floyd has the WBA belt also, and that his superstar status means he doens't technically need a belt, it's not likely Floyd will fight Pacquiao for the simple reason that he has become the mandatory challenger for a belt that he could vacate at any time.
