Miguel Cotto's team has advised Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer that Cotto will not be ready for a March bout against former light middleweight champion Saul Canelo Alvarez. Instead, it looks as though Cotto will go on to face Sergio Martinez on June 7th in NYC. While the deal to face Martinez hasn't been finalized, both parties are working to get it done. Cotto will be trying to make history as he tries to become the only Puerto Rican fighter in history to get four world titles in four different weight classes. That doesn't rule out the possibility of a Canelo-Cotto clash in 2014. If Cotto gets by Martinez it's likely a Canelo-Cotto fight would happen in November regardless of how Canelo's next two fights play out. Canelo is expected to face either Carlo Molina, Alfredo Angulo, or Erislandy Lara on March 8th.
