Stevenson-Fonfara heads to Showtime, Kovalev fight in doubt

The May 24th bout between Adonis Stevenson and Andrzej Fonfara is heading to Showtime after HBO decided to pass on the fight. HBO's decision comes at the fact that Stevenson's camp wouldn't commit to a fight with Sergey Kovalev should he defeat Fonfara on May 24th and Kovalev were victorious on March 28th. It's a complicated situation however HBO has stated that they are willing to discuss a Stevenson-Kovalev fight in the fall even though they will not pick up the Fonfara fight. It's doubtful that will happen. Stevenson always seemed more interested in a fight with Bernard Hopkins. Signing with Al Haymon and moving over to Showtime for his first fight under Haymon will almost guarantee him a Hopkins fight in the fall if they both win their upcoming fights. That means the likely hood of seeing a Stevenson-Kovalev fight this year is not looking good.

One thing is for sure, the fans outlashed at Stevenson's choice to not commit to a Kovalev fight on Twitter after hearing the news today. The fans want to see a Stevenson-Kovalev showdown and are not interested in a fight against Hopkins. The fight isn't dead but it seems it's heading in that direction.
