On Saturday, September 13, 2014, Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana will fight a rematch from their exciting and close May bout, won by Mayweather by majority decision. This is only the 2nd time Mayweather has given an opponent a rematch. The 1st time was the highly controversial decision against Castillo. Many thought Mayweather lost that fight. And there are many more who thought the 1st Maidana fight was a draw.
In the past decade we've seen Mayweather as a favorite by a landslide. In their 1st fight Floyd was as high as a 14-to-1 favorite. Early odds according to MyTopSportsbooks.com, has Mayweather as the favorite at -800 @ +500 for Maidana going into their rematch.
So why the favorite for Mayweather when their 1st fight was so close? Mayweather learns and figures out his opponents by the 5/6 RD. However Maidana was winning till about the 6th RD. This is when Mayweather took control of the fight. Going into their second fight will Money May make a quick and easy night? Will Mayweather apply what he learned from their 1st clash?
Hats off to Mayweather for giving Maidana a quick rematch. The Argentine sure gave him a tough go-around the first time. We'll all be watching the Showtime PPV event this September to see if Maidana can shock the world.
