Last weekend’s highly criticized card featuring undefeated light welterweight champion Danny Garcia and Rod Salka did a little better number than much anticipated. The main event drew around 808k average viewers making it one of Showtime’s most watched card this year according to Nielson. The fight peaked at around 850k. The Jacobs-Fletcher fight drew in around 560k viewers while the Peterson-Santana fight did around 650k.
While the number is down from the Garcia-Herrera card back in March it’s still higher than many expected considering most fans were saying they refused to watch it. The intrigue of whether or not Salka could pull off the upset could be one of the reasons why more people tuned in than expected. Fans on Twitter admitted to that being one of the reasons why they watched. Others say that just wanted to see Danny Garcia fight.
Garcia has been bashed this year in what many are calling a downfall from his great 2013 breakout year where he defeated Zab Judah and Lucas Matthysse. He’s expected to face Lamont Peterson in December.
