The WBC heavyweight title fight between U.S champion Deontay Wilder and Eric Molina had roughly 678K viewers on Showtime Saturday night. The poor number is half of what Wilder-Stiverne did in January earlier this year. That number was close to 1.2 million viewers.
There was a positive side to the event though. The fight took place in the Bartow Arena in Birmingham, AL in the home state of Deontay Wilder, which lead to over 10,000 fans in attendance. Boxing events have proved to provide huge home town crowds for certain fighters. Showtime's boxing cards have dropped significantly this year compared to the last two years, along with their ratings. The telecast had an average rating of 482K viewers for the night mainly because the opening bout between Jose Pedraza and Andrey Klimov had a low number of 381K viewers.
