Nietes, Reveco Within Rehydration Limit For Flyweight Title Fight

Juan Carlos Reveco was responsible for the only drop of scale drama during Friday's weigh-in for HBO's "Superfly 2" tripleheader, needing two tries to come within the 112-pound flyweight limit for his challenge of defending titlist Donnie Nietes.

There were no such issues during Saturday morning's weight rehydration check, as both boxers were easily within the tolerable limit for their International Boxing Federation (IBF) title tilt at The Forum in Ingkewood, California.

Nietes—who weighed 111.4 pounds on Friday—replenished nine pounds in weighing 120.4 during the second-day weigh-in session. Some 20 hours after struggling to squeeze down to the flyweight limit, Reveco was actually slightly lighter than Nietes on Saturday morning, coming in at 120.2 pounds.

The maximum limit in accordance with the IBF second-day 10-pound maximum weight gain was 122 pounds.

Philippines' Nietes (40-1-4, 22KOs) looks to extend his 32-fight unbeaten streak while also making the first defense of his flyweight title. The previously long-reigning junior flyweight titlist won the vacant title in a 12-round win over Komgrich Nantapech last April.

Reveco has won three straight since a Dec. '15 rematch loss to Kazuto Ioka, who ended his flyweight title reign earlier that year. The 34-year old from Argentina makes his stateside debut in Saturday's bout, fighting for just the sixth time overall outside of his home country.

All three losses for Reveco have taken place on the road—twice to Ioka along with a decision defeat to Brahim Asloum in his first career title bid way back in 2007. He earned an interim title in July '10 before graduating to full titlist with a points win over Masayuki Kuroda in Japan five years ago almost to the day for his only title fight win on the road. Five successful defenses followed before conceding the crown to Ioka in April '15.

Saturday's bout will open HBO's live tripleheader. Headlining the show, 2017 Fighter of the Year finalist Srisaket Sor Rungvisai meets Juan Francisco Estrada in a bout to declare the next World (lineal) super flyweight champion, which has remained vacant since Vic Darchinyan last defended the crown some eight years ago.

Also on the telecast, former 115-pound titlist Carlos Cuadras looks to rebound from a points loss to Estrada on last September's Superfly show as he faces two-time flyweight title challenger McWilliams Arroyo in a 10-round bout where the victor will be in prime position to challenge the winner of Saturday's main event later this year.
