Mayweather vs. Nurmagomedov: Everything to Know

Floyd Mayweather is undeniably one of the richest athletes in the world. After defeating Manny Pacquiao in a record $500 million match and denying UFC star Conor McGregor in their billion-dollar fight, there’s no denying that he is indeed a rich man. But despite this, he had been linked numerous times to a possible rematch with Pacquiao.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Mayweather confidently said that they are going to fight when asked on whether the rumors about his fight with the Russian are true. If ever this happens, then it would be similar to his previous fight with McGregor as it will be another crossover fight between boxing and MMA.

Nurmagomedov is currently at the peak of his career after dismantling Conor McGregor at UFC 229 last Oct. 6. The Russian fighter used his wrestling prowess to outmuscle McGregor, dropping him using his right hand in the second and eventually forcing him to submit after he gave a tight neck crank during the fourth round.

For sure, a fight between Khabib and Floyd will rock the sports and betting world and there will surely be loads of bonus offers from bet365 and other sports bookmakers.

But then again, for some, it was the end of the fight, but surprisingly, it wasn’t, as an all-out melee broke out soon after Nurmagomedov defeated the Irishman. He jumped straight out of the octagon and gave Conor’s coach and close friend Dillon Danis a combination of his own.

As of now, the two fighters are suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and are awaiting further investigation into how the brawls broke out.

Nurmagomedov isn’t too happy either with how the suspensions went out, claiming that he burst into anger as a result of McGregor's racial insults thrown against him. Because of this, the Russian threatened that he would quit the UFC if he deems further sanctions to be too much and unjustifiable.

According to reports, Nurmagomedov had also been approached by wrestling firm WWE about a possible contract signing, but the likelihood of him leaving for WWE is highly unlikely. However, there’s a huge chance that he might transition into the ring and fight Floyd Mayweather in a boxing-rules matchup.

In line with this, Mayweather said he is interested in fighting the Russian, stating that he is his “own boss” and that “he can make it happen.” The American also added that Nurmagomedov needs to come into his “world” because he was the one who called him out.

Both Mayweather and Nurmagomedov reigned supreme over the Irish fighter. Khabib defeated McGregor through submission while Floyd overwhelmed the Irishman with a barrage of punches during the 10th round of their Aug. 26, 2017 matchup.

The 40-year-old American even mocked Khabib’s victory, saying that the Russian only finished his “leftovers,” further taunting him to a possible fight in the ring.

So what’s with the two bitter rivals, Floyd and Manny? Well, nothing seems to be developing between the two as a rematch seems highly unlikely, especially that Floyd fighting Khabib will surely bring in more money, than him going on a rematch with the Filipino superstar. However, one cannot deny the fact that Manny re-entered the frontline of the fight game after defeating Lucas Matthyse last July.

What’s more is that Mayweather and Pacquiao teased each other in social media about a possible rematch this December, but it still hasn’t materialized up until now.

With this, it’d be safe to say that a Mayweather versus Nurmagomedov fight is more likely to happen than a rematch with Pacquiao. And with that being said, there’s no doubt that this will be one of the biggest fights of the decade.
