NABA middleweight champion Connor “The Kid” Coyle of Derry, Northern Ireland successfully defended his title for a third time with an impressive fifth round knockout of Joey Bryant Saturday, August 19 at The Bind Tiger in Biloxi, MS.
Coyle displayed good skills and outboxed Bryant in the early rounds. In the fifth Coyle dropped Bryant three times, forcing the referee to halt the contest at 2:54.
Coyle improved to 20-0 with 9 KO’s and he’s currently ranked #6 by the World Boxing Association (WBA). Bryant falls to 17-2 (13 KO’s).
“I’m happy with the victory,” said Coyle. who trains out of Pinellas Park, FL. “Our game plan was to pick him apart round by round and break him down. It was executed exactly the way we wanted it.”
With the victory, Coyle’s sights are set on facing one of the champions or top contenders at 160 pounds.
“The plan is to fight in an eliminator or for the world title as soon as possible. My team is going to explore potential fights against the bigger names at middleweight to see what makes the most sense.”
