Jamel Herring Ring Return For Nov 7th In NYC Mikiah Kreps Co-Featured On Undercard

Former WBO junior lightweight titleholder and decorated U.S. Marine, Jamel Herring, is set for a triumphant return to the ring with a Veteran’s Day-themed comeback bout. The event is scheduled for November 7th and will take place at the Edison Ballroom in New York City, headlining a Pro-Am boxing card.

While Herring's opponent is yet to be finalized, it's confirmed that he will make his return to the 130-pound division after briefly competing in the lightweight division last spring. The card will also showcase emerging talents, with undefeated prospects Kurt Scoby (13-0, 11 KOs) and Mikiah Kreps (6-0, 3 KOs) featured in separate bouts.

Mikiah Kreps, from Niagara Falls, NY, co-managed by Herring and Jerry Cazares and promoted by DiBella Entertainment, joins forces with Scoby, who recently signed a promotional deal with DiBella Entertainment.

Originally planned to be held at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, the event will now serve as a tribute to all military personnel, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice during wartime.

Herring, a Long Island, New York native who served two tours in Iraq, had previously announced his retirement following a unanimous decision loss to Jamaine Ortiz in a lightweight bout last May. This decision came after back-to-back losses, including a stoppage by Shakur Stevenson in October 2021, ending his WBO 130-pound title reign that lasted over two years.

The former 2012 U.S. Olympic boxing team captain and titleholder had a change of heart earlier this year, initially considering a challenge to IBF junior lightweight titlist Joe Cordina. However, Herring's team opted for a comeback fight to assess the 37-year-old southpaw's career after an eighteen-month absence from the ring.

Herring's comeback journey will be guided by Wayne McCullough, a 1992 Olympic Silver medalist and former WBC bantamweight champion, with their training camp based in Las Vegas.
