Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Serhii Bohachuk have faced numerous challenges both inside and outside the ring, but ending fights early has never been one of them.
On August 10, these two junior middleweights will likely face their toughest test yet when they clash at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Given their track records, it's unlikely this bout will last the full 12 rounds.
Ortiz, with an impeccable record of 21-0, 21 KOs, from Grand Prairie, Texas, has won every professional fight by knockout. His most recent victories include a first-round KO against Ghana’s Frederick Lawson in January during his 154-pound debut and another first-round KO against Thomas Dulorme in April. Despite health issues that sidelined him for 17 months before the Lawson fight, the 26-year-old Ortiz is determined to show that he's back on track and ready to solidify his status in the junior middleweight division with a win over Bohachuk.
On the other hand, Bohachuk, holding a record of 24-1, 23 KOs, from Vinitza, Ukraine, has also faced his share of adversity, including dealing with the turmoil in his home country and visa complications. However, he has found solace in his success in the ring. Apart from an eighth-round TKO loss to Brandon Adams in March 2021, Bohachuk has been dominant. His most recent fight was a standout performance, earning a dominant points victory over Argentina’s former world titleholder Brian Mendoza to claim an interim belt in March, marking his first win without a stoppage.
