Former bantamweight champion John Riel Casimero and former unified light flyweight champion Hiroto Kyoguchi are set to return to the ring on October 13th in Yokohama, as part of a show promoted by former fighter Masayuki Ito.
Casimero (33-4-1, 22 KOs) will headline the event in a super bantamweight bout against Saul Sanchez (21-3, 12 KOs). "Quadro Alas," who has been on a 2-0-1 run since his narrow victory over Guillermo Rigondeaux, has faced challenges in recent years, including losing his title after two failed weigh-ins. However, he bounced back with victories over Ryo Akaho and Fillipus Nghitumbwa before a technical draw against Yukinori Oguni due to a headbutt.
Sanchez, known for his January slugfest with Jason Moloney, is stepping up to 122 pounds for this fight. While he’s had mixed success at this weight, his natural fit is at 118 pounds. Despite this, he will enjoy height and reach advantages over Casimero.
Kyoguchi (18-2, 12 KOs) is looking to rebound after his recent setbacks. Following his unsuccessful unification bout against Kenshiro Teraji, he secured two wins at 112 pounds before unexpectedly losing to Vince Paras (21-2-1, 15 KOs) in a rematch last May. The two are now set for a rubber match to settle the score.
The event will also feature a clash between Yukinori Oguni and Fillipus Nghitumbwa, as well as a fight featuring former minimumweight champion Masataka Taniguchi.
