Excitement is building for November 2nd as two major bouts are set to take place. Rising lightweight prospect Floyd Schofield will headline a DAZN card, facing off against veteran Rene Tellez Giron, while Gabriela Fundora and Gabriela Celeste Alaniz will battle for the undisputed women's flyweight title.
Schofield, 22, holds a perfect record of 17-0 with 12 knockouts. He was originally slated to fight Ashton Sylve, but after Sylve’s upset loss to Lucas Bahdi, Schofield now faces a seasoned opponent in Giron. Giron (20-3, 13 KO) presents a challenging test for Schofield. The veteran fighter, known as “El Bravo,” has experienced tough losses against top fighters Michel Rivera and Giovani Cabrera, along with a close majority decision defeat to Jose Matias Romero in 2022. Despite these setbacks, Giron is riding a three-fight winning streak, including a victory over Karlos Balderas.
Meanwhile, Gabriela Fundora (14-0, 6 KO) will enter the ring with momentum, having gone 2-0 this year. Her January bout ended with an awkward finish against Christina Cruz, followed by a dominant decision win over Daniela Asenjo in July. Fundora had long sought an undisputed matchup with Marlen Esparza, but that plan changed when Alaniz (15-1, 6 KO) outworked Esparza in their rematch to claim the three titles Esparza had lost on the scales.
With these matchups, boxing fans can expect an action-packed night. Although it will compete with the rematch between Robson Conceicao and O’Shaquie Foster, this event could prove to be the more compelling of the two.
