Former world champion Tim Tszyu returned to the ring in dominant fashion Saturday night, securing a fourth-round TKO victory over Joey Spencer in the main event of PBC Championship Boxing on Prime Video, held at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre.
Following back-to-back title losses in 2024, Tszyu (25-2, 18 KOs) delivered a performance that reignited his pursuit of another world title in the competitive super welterweight division.
“We took over the town and put on a show,” Tszyu said. “There was pressure—I couldn’t afford another loss. I hope I taught people that if you fall, you can always get back up and rise again.”
Tszyu approached the early rounds cautiously, choosing to measure distance and apply pressure without overcommitting. In the third round, he increased his output, landing precise lead hooks and putting Spencer (19-2, 11 KOs) on the defensive. The fourth round saw Tszyu unleash a relentless barrage of power punches, landing 41 in total, which caused severe swelling around Spencer’s right eye. Spencer’s corner threw in the towel at 2:18 of the round.
“I learned from my past mistakes,” Tszyu added. “I was fortunate to share the ring with a worthy opponent. I’m back, and I’ve proven it to myself and the world.”
Following the bout, Tszyu expressed interest in a high-profile showdown with former unified world champion Keith Thurman, who recently recorded a knockout victory in Australia.
“Sign the contract,” Tszyu said. “If the fans want it, we can deliver a major event right here in Australia.”
Co-Main Event: Talivaa Redeems Himself in Rematch Victory
Heavyweight contender Liam Talivaa (7-1, 3 KOs) avenged a previous loss by stopping Brandon Grach (3-1, 2 KOs) in the fifth round of their rematch. Talivaa had suffered a knockout defeat in their initial 2023 bout but turned the tables in this encounter with disciplined aggression and improved technique.
Talivaa scored a knockdown in the third round with a counter hook and opened visible damage around Grach’s right eye. In the fifth, a combination of a right hook and straight left dropped Grach once more, prompting the referee to halt the contest at 1:08.
“I came here to redeem myself and show the world who I am,” said Talivaa. “I give credit to Grach for a great fight and for being part of this chapter in my journey.”
