Lamont Peterson wins by 8th round TKO!

     IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (31-1, 16 KO's) made a statement on Friday Night Fights as he dominated Kendall Holt (28-6, 16 KO's), battering him into a 8th TKO. Peterson started off like a fighter that hadn't been in the ring for over a year, sluggish and slow, often not looking like himself. The first three rounds Peterson found himself backing up and allowing Holt to take the fight to him, landing combinations and making Peterson look as though he wasn't going to wake up. It could have been ring rust, or respect for Holt's power. However, it didn't last long.

     When the fourth round began, Peterson came out and meant business. Peterson walked Holt down as he finally began to open up with combinations. It wouldn't be long before a left hook would send Holt to the canvas. After that, Peterson was in control. Holt spent the next round trying to survive, fighting back but not enough to keep Peterson away from him. In the sixth round a barrage of punches would send Holt to a knee. Two rounds later, Referee Tony Weeks had seen enough as Peterson put Holt on the ropes and battered him until Weeks called it.

     For Peterson, redemption couldn't have felt more sweet. The wins puts him back on the map in a division stacked with possibilities of great fights to come, and perhaps sooner than later, the long anticipated rematch between him and Amir Khan.
