Omar Figueroa Jr wins Fight of the Year caliber fight

In the co-main event to Andre Berto vs Jesus Soto Karass, Omar Figueroa Jr vs Nihito Arakawa no doubt put itself as the leader in the 2013 Fight of the Year candidate race. Figueroa defeated Arakawa by Unanimous decision by scores of 118-108, 118-108, and 119-107. Despite the wide range in scoring the fight took place in a phone booth for the entire 12 rounds as both fighters exchanged massive blows for almost every minute of every round. The fight had the fans standing from beginning to end and at times it seemed Arakawa wasn't going to finish however he took everything Figueroa had and fired back. Figueroa knocked down Arakawa twice in the fight, and the final two rounds Figueroa found himself fighting for his boxing life after suffering two hand injuries that became apparent in the tenth round as Arakawa had him on the ropes and was breaking him down. Figueroa vs Arakawa had the twitter world in explosion as right now is being talked about as the 2013 Fight of the Year.


Opening the card was a fight that many thought would be the fight of the night. Keith Thurman survived an early onslaught from Diego Chaves to go on to defeat Chaves by 10th round KO. The first three rounds of the fight were controlled by Chaves they exchanged powerful blows back and forth. But it was Thurman who managed to box better down the stretch and eventually drop Chaves with a body shot in the 9th round. Thurman was able to finish Chaves in the tenth. Thurman improved to 21-0 with 19 KO's while Chaves suffered the first defeat of his career falling to 22-1 with 18 KO's.
