Mayweather dominates Canelo, Garcia shocks Matthysse

Undefeated pound for pound king and eight time world champion Floyd Mayweather continued to reign supreme in the boxing world as he defeated Mexican sensation Saul "Canelo" Alvarez Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas with a majority decision. Scores were 117-111, 116-112, and 114-114. Scores were surprising to say the least as most people thought Mayweather dominated the entire fight from start to finish. The most shocking one was CJ Ross's score of 114-114. The question regarding CJ Ross being selected as a judge to Mayweather-Canelo was odd to begin with, considering she had already been part of a controversial decision last year when she scored the Pacquiao-Bradley fight 115-113 for Bradley, a fight that many people thought Pacquiao dominated in. Regardless, the right man won as Mayweather used his dominate hand speed, presicion punching, and elusive defense to frustrate and dominate Canelo not just by backing up with counter-punching, but by mostly staying in the pocket and exchanging with him. Mayweather improved to 45-0 while Canelo suffered the first loss of his career falling to 42-1.

In the Co-Main Event, undefeated junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia defeated Lucas Matthysse by Unanimous Decision. Scores were 115-111, 114-112, 114-112. Garcia once again proved the critics wrong with the victory as he managed to pull out another upset win. Matthysse appeared to be in control of the fight until the sixth round where his left eye closed. Garcia was able to use that to his advantage as he began to pull away on the scorecards by hitting Matthysse over and over again in the closed eye. Matthysse seemed unable to get anything off after the eye shut, and Garcia was able to drop him in the 11th round. The victory improves Garcia to 27-0, and may put him in line to face Mayweather next.
