Golovkin defeats Stevens by 8th round TKO

Gennady Golovkin improved to 28-0, 25 KO's as he retained his IBO and WBA world middleweight belts by defeating Curtis Stevens with a 8th round TKO at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City. Golovkin came out using the jab and trying to box the hard hitting Stevens. In the second round Golovkin dropped Stevens with a hard left hook to the head. Stevens was able to survive the round, and later in round four he would land hard shots of his own on Golovkin. As the fight continued though, it was Golovkin who took control with hard body shots and contineous pressure that would force Stevens' corner to stop the fight.

The Co-Main event featured two undefeated heavyweights that put perhaps the most exciting heavyweight fight of the year. Cuban Mike Perez defeated Magomed Abdusalamov by unanimous decision in an action packed heavyweight bout where over 800 punches were thrown between both fighters. Perez was the more skilled of the two as he used precise punching and body work to keep away the hard hitting Abdusalamov. Both fighters were hit with big shots that made the fight feel like it was going to end with a quick knockout however the chins of both men held up for the entire fight. Abdusalamov fell to 18-1, 18 KO's with the loss.
