Sergio Martinez readies backup plan

Sergio Martinez is looking to have a big fight against Miguel Cotto on June 7th in New York City. It's the fight that he wants, his team wants, and promoter Bob Arum wants. However, recently Miguel Cotto met with Golden Boy Promotions and received an offer of over ten million dollars to face Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in March on a Showtime PPV event. If Cotto takes the offer he would be putting a potential Martinez bout on the back burner until late of 2014. Martinez's camp has advised boxingscene.com that they plan to fight in the spring no matter what happens. In the event that Cotto fights Canelo in March, Martinez will face WBC number one contender Marco Antonio Rubio in Argentina.
