Golden Boy inks top Cuban heavyweight Luis Ortiz

LOS ANGELES (November 22) - Golden Boy Promotions is pleased to announce an alliance with Dade Promotions to co-promote unbeaten former Cuban amateur star and current heavyweight contender Luis "The Real King Kong" Ortiz, who will make his Golden Boy Promotions debut on Tuesday, November 26 at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. with a 10-round bout against former Olympian Alex Gonzalez of Puerto Rico.

"I'm proud to be fighting for Golden Boy Promotions and Dade Promotions and I'm going to give a great show on November 26," said Ortiz. "I'll be looking for the knockout from the opening bell and as excited as the fans will be, I'm even more excited to be fighting in and representing the United States, which has been my home for the past four years.  I have promised my unborn son (due date: Dec. 7th)  that I will eventually bring the world championship title back to America."

"Luis is a welcome addition to our team, and he's got the talent and experience to shake up the heavyweights," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "I can't wait to see what he can do with the top fighters in the division, and I know he's ready for the challenges ahead."

"I'm happy to put this deal together between Golden Boy Promotions and Dade Promotions, and excited about the possibilities that will see us lead Luis Ortiz to the world heavyweight championship," added Juan Lazaro Jimenez, manager of Ortiz.

343-19 as an amateur, Camaguey native Luis Ortiz (19-0, 16 KO's) was a two-time National champion and a Gold medal winner of the 2005 World Cup. Now living in Miami, Florida, the 34-year-old southpaw is being trained by highly regarded South Florida trainer Herman Caicedo and is making a mark as a professional with wins over Kendrick Releford and Francisco Alvarez, 10 knockouts in three rounds or less, and four regional titles. Now he's looking to tackle the big guns in the heavyweight division.
