Guillermo Rigondeaux (13-0, 8 KO's) did what everyone expected him to do Saturday night as he defeated Joseph Agbeko (29-5, 22 KO's) by Unanimous Decision at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. Rigondeaux used his masterful boxing ability, speed, and defense to totally dominate Agbeko, who never stood a chance against the former amateur sensation out of Cuba. Scores were 120-108 across the board.
The Co-Main event stole the entire show as James Kirkland (32-1, 28 KO's) and Glen Tapia (20-1, 12 KO's) fought in a Fight of the Year Caliber fight. Neither fight backed down as the both went for the KO from the opening bell. It was Kirkland who would end up being victorious as he was able to take all the shots that Tapia dished out and return them in crowd pleasing fashion. Kirkland went on to win by 6th round TKO.
Opening the card, Matthew Macklin (30-5, 20 KO's) returned from a devastating loss to GGG to defeat Lamar Russ (14-1, 7 KO's) by unanimous decision. Scores were 96-94, 97-93, and 98-92.
