Golovkin demolishes Rubio in two

Undefeated middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KO’s) needed only two rounds to decimate Marco Antonio Rubio (59-7, 51 KO’s) extending his streak to 18 straight knockouts and showing the boxing world that his phenom status as one of the most dangerous men in boxing will continue on into 2015. 

Golovkin stalked Rubio down, took a couple good shots of his own, and then landed a powerful left hook in the second round that would end Rubio’s night. Rubio tried to get up right before the ten count claiming that he was ok to continue but he didn’t stand up in time. Golovkin’s punches pushed Rubio back from the opening bell though Rubio seemed to be taking them well until the left hook landed. After the fight Golovkin said that Miguel Cotto was the fight that he wanted next but that he would be open to facing that of Saul Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. 

HBO’s Max Kellerman stated that Andre Ward’s lawyer emailed him stating that Ward was available and willing to fight Golovkin however Ward has been experiencing legal troubles with his Promoter for the last year. It’s not believed that those troubles have gone away as Ward has yet to fight in the year 2014.

In the co-feature, Nicholas Walters (25-0, 21 KO’s) demolished Nonito Donaire (33-3, 21 KO’s) in six rounds. Walters used his long jab to keep Donaire off for most of the fight. Donaire had his moments with the left hook early but a right uppercut from Walters that dropped Donaire in the third would be the game changer in the fight. Donaire never seemed to recover from the knockdown as he spent the next three rounds fighting cautiously until Walters was able to catch him again in the sixth and finish him off.
