In what many thought would be a boring one way massacre in favor of Amir Khan turned into one of the best fight's the PBC has had all year. In a battle of will, heart, and determination, Amir Khan was able to weather the Chris Algieri storm by scoring a unanimous decision victory. Scores were 117-111 twice and 115-113 in favor of Khan though many scorecards across media outlets were much closer to the 115-113 range. Khan improved to 31-3, 19 KO's. Algieri fell to (20-2, 8 KO's)
From the opening bell Khan's super hand speed showed as he tagged Algieri again and again. At the end of the round though Algieri landed a huge right hand that staggered Khan, sending the fight into full throttle. Khan's speed continued to dominate through round two but in round three, four, and five it was the aggressive Algieri that was beginining to take control of the fight with his continuous pressure. Algieri had huge success landing the right hand over and over again stunning Khan more than a few times during the fight. As he began to break Khan down it seemed that trouble was looming for the British star.
However, Khan was able to withstand the continuous pressure of Algieri resorting to his boxing ability and amazing hand speed to keep Algieri honest. Algieri began to tire in the later round allowing Khan to take some control in rounds nine, ten, and eleven. Algieri came on strong in round twelve but by then he seemed to be far behind on the score cards, lacking the power to be able to get a knockout victory that he would have needed to win the fight.
