Sergio Martinez Announces Retirement

Today Sergio Martinez announced his retirement from boxing at age 40. Today at the International Boxing Hall of Fame festivities in Canastota, New York. Martinez who was in attendance announced his retirement. Martinez has been out of the ring since last June when he was knocked out by Miguel Cotto.

Martinez has an impressive career fighting some of the biggest and best in the sport, Paul Williams, Migule Cotto, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Kelly Pavlik and Antonio Margarito. Martinez has been dealing with numerous injuries to his body and needing knee surgeries.

"I'm thanking those that I've named, because here at the Hall of Fame I'm making my official retirement from boxing after 20 years.... It's time to step aside and go towards other horizons, so here I retire. Thank you very much and until victory, forever."
