IBF Welterweight champion Kell Brook 36-1, 25 KO's took to Twitter today to state that he plans on facing his mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr 21-0, 18 KO's next.
"All that work just to give it up? Never ducked a challenge in my life. Here to give the fans what they want @ErrolSpenceJr you are next."
Brook's tweet didn't give any details as to where or when he plans on facing Spence Jr, only that he plans on defending his IBF title instead of vacating it to move up to 154. There were talks that Brook's camp has been in contact with Miguel Cotto as well. While it seems that Brook's Promoter Eddie Hearn wants to steer Brook in a different direction, the UK fighter isn't keen on giving him his belt.
Since losing to Gennady Golovkin back in September Kell Brook has stated that he doesn't want to give up the welterweight title even though there were rumors he was having a hard time making that weight. As of right now it seems as though he is sticking to his guns despite bigger money and prestige fights being offered up such as fights with Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao later this year. If Brook does fight Spence Jr next it'll be a rarity in the world of Boxing where most fighters chase the bigger money and spotlight fights instead of filling their mandatories.
