Cotto-Kamegai Draws Impressive Ratings

Overshadowed by the mega-event between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Conor McGregor, Miguel Cotto's exciting twelve round victory over Yoshihiro Kamegai didn't go totally unnoticed. The Cotto-Kamegai fight itself drew a peak of 804K viewers according to Neilson. The fight's average stayed around the high 700K range.

While the fight was up against Mayweather-McGregor, Cotto's fight was going off around the same time that Gervonta Davis was fighting which would allow people to have changed the station to watch the fight while they waited for Mayweather and McGregor to take the stage. Still, it's hard to do that knowing you paid $100 to watch a card. With big parties going on it's difficult to go back and forth.

All in all, 800K is an impressive number considering what it was up against. HBO has been averaging lower than a million viewers for the past two years with much to blame on the loss of Boxing interest since Mayweather-Pacquiao. The numbers have slowly increased but HBO itself seems to have lost a financial interest in Boxing. It'll be interesting to see what the future holds for them.
