Gamboa defeated Sosa after getting dropped

In the opening bout of the HBO triple header, former unified featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa squared off against Jason Sosa in a scheduled ten-round super featherweight contest. Gamboa defeated Sosa by a majority decision, scores : 95-93, 96-92, 94-94. Sosa scored a knockdown in round seven when Gamboa’s glove touched the canvas and Gamboa was deducted a point for holding by referee Ron Lipton. He still managed to pull off the win.

Yuriorkis Gamboa, started stronge and fast landing a lot of counter punches. Jason Sosa was pressing the action slugging out the rounds. Gamboa started to fade, against he took the fight on a three week notice. Sosa connected with two straight right hands to the head and a left hand to the body. Gamboa moved, made Sosa miss several times and landed occasional right hands

Gamboa @ 35, a 2004 Olympic gold medalist for Cuba, bounced back from a technical knockout loss to Mexico’s Robinson Castellanos on May 5th in Las Vegas. He didn't look like a superstart and he did take the fight on short notice.
