Daniel Jacobs fails to comply with rehydration clause for Canelo fight, faces $1 million fine

LAS VEGAS -- Daniel Jacobs blew the contracted 170- pound rehydration clause mandated by Canelo Alvarez when he weighed in early Saturday morning at 173.6 pounds, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya told ESPN.

The fight to unify their three middleweight title belts is still on for Saturday (DAZN, 9 p.m. ET). While Jacobs is still eligible to win the titles, he faces up to a $1 million fine, and has upset Alvarez.

Both fighters made the 160-pound middleweight division limit Friday afternoon with ease, with Canelo weighing 159.5 pounds and Jacobs coming in at 160 flat.

According to ESPN's Dan Rafael, they were subject to a weight check at 8 a.m. PT in their respective hotel suites, and Jacobs failed to comply with the deal.

Jacobs is reportedly subject to a $250,000 fine per pound, which means the IBF titlist should owe $1 million because one ounce over three pounds counts as four.

When Jacobs fought then-unified world titleholder Gennady Golovkin in a 2017 middleweight world title fight, he failed to abide by the IBF's 10-pound rehydration limit, and removed himself from eligibility to win their belt. Ultimately, it did not affect the outcome as Golovkin won a close unanimous decision.
