Boxing Hall of Famer Oscar De La Hoya is accused of sexual assault by an unidentified woman according to court documents submitted to California Superior Court for Los Angeles County.
The woman is seeking a jury trial and an unspecified amount of damages for alleged sexual assault, sexual battery, gender violence, negligence, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Greg Kirakosian, the attorney for the San Bernardino woman, filed the 10-page lawsuit on Oct. 17.
The woman said she became friends with De La Hoya in late 2016 before they eventually began a consensual sexual relationship. However, things turned violent on or about Nov. 12, 2017, when De La Hoya took the woman to see his new home in Pasadena.
The woman claimed that an intoxicated De La Hoya became aggressive after she refused to perform a sex act. After demanding De La Hoya stop, the plaintiff claimed the former five-division world titleholder violently sexually assaulted her.
According to the lawsuit, the woman “screamed in pain,” but De La Hoya laughed and responded by urging the plaintiff to drink more alcohol.
According to the suit, the woman eventually left under her own power and sought medical treatment at an urgent care facility, where she was prescribed medication. According to the suit, the woman was eventually diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of the assault.
"To date, Plaintiff continues to suffer from extreme distress, humiliation, indignation and outrage as a result of De La Hoya's conduct," the lawsuit said. "As a result of said distress, Plaintiff has suffered and continues to suffer constant and daily symptoms of depression, anxiety, and related symptoms associated with post-traumatic stress disorder."
De La Hoya, 46, who is the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, was in Cancun, Mexico, on Monday, attending the annual WBC Convention.
De La Hoya’s spokeman denied the allegations.
"A frivolous lawsuit was filed recently alleging that Oscar De La Hoya sexually assaulted 'Jane Doe,' which is completely false," the statement from his spokesman said. "Oscar is a very successful businessman, running one of the country's leading sports and entertainment companies -- thus a prime target. It is worth noting that both recent lawsuits have been filed by the same attorney who is looking to make a name for himself. We vehemently deny these allegations and look forward to vigorously defending Oscar's good name and reputation."
