Shocking: Chavez blows weight, loses $1 million

PHOENIX -- Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was nearly five pounds overweight for his super middleweight bout against Daniel Jacobs.

On Tuesday, Chavez was cleared by a Nevada State Court judge to fight Jacobs. The ruling forced the Nevada State Athletic Commission to remove a temporary suspension that was implemented after Chavez refused to take a random drug test in October.

The 12-round fight will go on at Talking Stick Resort Arena (DAZN, 9 p.m. ET) in Phoenix, Arizona, but Chavez will lose $1 million of his roughly $3 million guarantee.

Chavez (51-3-1, 33 KO's), 33, of Mexico, a former middleweight world titleholder, weighed in on Thursday at 172.7 pounds.

Jacobs (35-3, 29 KO's), 32, of Brooklyn, New York who is making his 168-pound debut following a decision loss to Canelo Alvarez in their middleweight title unification fight in May, came in at 167.8 pounds.

Former middleweight world title contender Gabriel Rosado (24-12-1, 14 KOs), 33, of Philadelphia, will face Humberto Gutierrez Ochoa on the undercard against Humberto Gutierrez Ochoa (33-8-2, 22 KO's), 31, of Mexico, in a 10-round bout.

Also, Julio Cesar Martinez (14-1, 11 KO's), 24, of Mexico, will square off against former flyweight world titlist Cristofer Rosales (29-4, 20 KO's), 25, of Nicaragua in the chief support fight.

Former junior welterweight world titlist Maurice Hooker (26-1-3, 17 KO's), 30, of Dallas, will make his welterweight debut in a 10-round contest against Uriel Perez (19-4, 17 KO's), 24, of Mexico. Hooker is coming off his first professional defeat when he lost his 140-pound world title by sixth-round knockout to Jose Ramirez on July 27 in a title unification bout.
