Felix Alvarado has become the latest boxer to shift weight classes.
FightNights.com has learned that Alvarado has formally vacated his IBF junior flyweight title reign.
Alvarado (37-2, 32 KOs) won the then-vacant strap in October 2018 with a seventh-round stoppage against Randy Petalcorin in the Philippines. However, the 33-year-old Nicaraguan would make just two title defenses, which partially due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He traveled to Japan for his first title defense against Reiya Konishi and won a comfortable unanimous decision over the former title challenger. Following a 20-month layoff, Alvarado made his second defense, a 10th-round TKO of former strawweight world champion Deejay Kriel.
Alvarado most recently fought last August 14 in Texas on the Vergil Ortiz Jr.-Egidijus Kavaliauskas card, where he scored a first-round knockout if Israel Vazquez. The bout, which was originally scheduled for 10 rounds, was contested at junior flyweight, but his title was not at stake.
