What is next for Tyson Fury?

At this point, it is hard to know if Fury himself even knows. Some clarity should come soon, with the WBC seeking talks on his future plans. The question is a pretty important one for the boxing authority, given that Fury is currently their champion and has maintained ever since his sixth-round knockout win over Dillian Whyte a Wembley Stadium last month that he is done with the sport. Fury was the overwhelming favorite to win that bout with most offshore betting sites, so it remains to be seen if he’s looking for a bigger challenge in boxing or if his intentions lie elsewhere.

If the fight that took him to 33-0 is his last as a professional boxer, then Fury has options. There has been talk that the 33-year-old could go back and make further guest appearances in WWE after having wrestled for the company in a showpiece match in 2019. There is also talk of a ‘hybrid’ fight against UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, with no details of what that ‘hybrid’ style will look like. Fury could also easily go into acting, with roles in Hollywood or on British TV sure to flood in as soon as he announces a career change in that direction.

If Fury does return to boxing there are three names that immediately spring off of the page for the heavyweight champion to face.

Oleksandr Usyk – Uysk is the other top heavyweight in the world. The Ukrainian has plenty on his plate right now in world matters, but a future fight billed as the battle of the two best fighters in the weight class that traditionally has bought in the most money would be huge.

Anthony Joshua – Fury vs. Joshua would be a second battle for English supremacy in the heavyweight ranks in 12 months. Joshua would have to get past Usyk – a fighter who has beaten him in the past – to make this happen.

Andy Ruiz Jr. – This name doesn’t have the draw of the other two, but would be an interesting clash between two incredibly skilled fighters that don’t look nearly as impressive as they are. Ruiz might actually be a tougher opponent for Fury than Joshua given his style in the ring.
