Ryan Garcia has earned some kudos from Gervonta Davis.
The two will square off in the main event of a Showtime Pay-Per-View on April 22 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Davis is widely expected to win their highly-anticipated 136-pound catchweight bout.
Nonetheless, the bout features two popular and explosive fighters in the prime of their careers. Following a one-bout appearance in 2022, Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) kicked off the new year with a knockout win over previously unbeaten Hector Luis Garcia. "KingRy", in the meanwhile, passed on an opportunity to fight Mercito Gesta on January 28 to focus solely on Davis. However, he did fight twice in 2022, picking up a 12-round unanimous decision win over Emanuel Tagoe in April and followed up with a sixth-round knockout of Javier Fortuna in July.
Despite their fiery confrontation at a nightclub last September, Davis is aware of his foe's skills. It seems like a token of appreciation from a fighter who has knocked out 18 of his last 19 opponents. But while there is some form of respect, the 28-year-old Davis isn't exactly concerned by what Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) has to offer.
“He’s a solid fighter,” said Davis to ESNEWS. “I feel as though he’s pretty good. Shit, he’s one of the top guys, he gotta be doing something right.”
Garcia, in the meanwhile, has remained confident that he will become the first man to defeat Davis. On April 22, we will find out if he will back up his pre-fight talk.
