Frank Zaldivar is investing in his future.
The 27-year-old former amateur standout, who returns to the ring on May 22 on a ProBox TV card, has hired Roy Jones Jr. as his next trainer.
Zaldivar, who holds a record of 4-0 with 2 knockouts, also recently signed with Cameron Management Team, which is headed by Michael Cameron, Derrick Workman, and Kevin Homer.
"I [would] like to thank Michael Cameron and CMT Management for this great opportunity. I am excited to be working with one of the greatest fighters we have ever seen in Roy Jones Jr. I am ready to showcase my skills to the world."
CMT also made a statement regarding their latest prospect: "We are very excited to have Frank in our stable. We believe he has the work ethic and talent to be a world champion, and now with the legend Roy Jones Jr. passing off his knowledge, the sky is the limit. Frank will be fighting May 22 [and his opponent] will be announced shortly."
Zaldivar has not fought since last September. when he fought Antonio Mejia to a four-round no decision in Odessa, Texas. The result was originally a unanimous decision win for Zaldivar, until the result was overturned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
Aside from the hiccup in his career, Zaldivar had an amateur record of 63-15 and holds a win over fellow standout Andy Cruz, who beat Keyshawn Davis three times in the unpaid ranks. Zaldivar also qualified for the Cuban Olympic team, but disallowed from participating after he was ruled a flight risk.
